Wutai

Location from Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix

An eastern island nation with deep martial traditions that fought and lost a devastating war against Shinra's military expansion. Now a diminished tourist town, much to Yuffie's shame and determination to restore its honor.

Wutai was once the most powerful nation outside Shinra's control, possessing a proud warrior culture and deep materia traditions. The Wutai War — fought over the nation's refusal to allow mako reactor construction — ended in Wutai's humiliating defeat, reducing it from a sovereign power to a tourist curiosity. Yuffie's obsessive materia theft stems from her desire to restore Wutai's former glory. Her father Godo, once a fierce warrior lord, now sits in diminished authority. The Five-Story Pagoda houses Wutai's greatest warriors, and climbing it remains the ultimate test of martial prowess. The nation's history makes it a symbol of what Shinra's expansion costs the world.
