Northern Crater

Location from Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix

The massive impact crater where Jenova fell to the Planet two thousand years ago. Sephiroth makes his final stand here within a cocoon of concentrated mako, summoning Meteor to destroy the world.

The Northern Crater is both Jenova's landing site and Sephiroth's final stronghold. Two thousand years ago, the alien entity crashed here, nearly destroying the Planet and forcing the Cetra to sacrifice themselves to heal the wound. The crater reaches deep enough to tap raw Lifestream, making it one of the most mako-rich locations in the world. Sephiroth descended here after the Nibelheim Incident, encasing himself in a mako cocoon while projecting his will across the world through Jenova's cells. Cloud's party must descend through increasingly surreal caverns filled with powerful monsters to reach him. The final battle against Sephiroth's transcendent forms takes place at the crater's deepest point.

Appearance

An enormous wound in the Planet's surface at the frozen northern continent's edge. Sheer ice walls descend into spiraling caverns of crystallized mako, growing warmer and more alien with depth. At its heart, rivers of pure Lifestream converge around Sephiroth's crystalline cocoon, bathing everything in searing green light.
