Nibelheim

Location from Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix

A remote mountain village and hometown of Cloud and Tifa, forever scarred by the Nibelheim Incident — Sephiroth's discovery of his origins in the Shinra Mansion and his subsequent burning of the village in madness.

Nibelheim is where Final Fantasy VII's tragedy began. Five years before the game's start, Sephiroth was sent here with Zack on a routine reactor inspection. In the Shinra Mansion basement, he discovered Hojo's records revealing his origin as a Jenova experiment, and the revelation shattered his mind. He burned Nibelheim to the ground, killed its inhabitants, and descended into the reactor to claim Jenova's body. Cloud and Tifa both nearly died trying to stop him. Shinra rebuilt the village identically and installed actors to cover up the massacre, creating a surreal experience when Cloud's party returns to find everything apparently normal.

Appearance

A small alpine village nestled against Mount Nibel, with timber-framed houses clustered around a central well. The Shinra Mansion looms at the village edge, its windows dark. After the massacre, Shinra secretly rebuilt the village identically and populated it with actors to conceal the truth.
