Cosmo Canyon

Location from Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix

A sacred canyon settlement devoted to the study of the Planet and its Lifestream. Home of Red XIII and his grandfather Bugenhagen, and a gathering place for those who seek to understand the world's spiritual ecology.

Cosmo Canyon is the intellectual and spiritual counterpoint to Shinra's industrial worldview. Founded on the study of Planet Life — the understanding that the world is a living organism sustained by the Lifestream — the canyon attracts scholars, mystics, and seekers from across the globe. Bugenhagen, Red XIII's grandfather, serves as elder and teacher, using his observatory to demonstrate how mako reactors are slowly killing the Planet. The Cosmo Candle has burned for generations as a symbol of the canyon's vigil. Here, Cloud's party first truly understands the scope of what Shinra's mako extraction means for the world's survival.

Appearance

Red-rock canyon walls shelter a terraced village built into the cliff face, connected by rope ladders and wooden walkways. The eternal Cosmo Candle burns at the settlement's heart, its flame visible for miles. Bugenhagen's observatory sits at the highest point, its planetarium projecting the cosmos.
