Masamune

Item from Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix

Sephiroth's impossibly long nodachi, a seven-foot blade wielded with supernatural grace. Only Sephiroth can use it effectively, and its appearance heralds death — it killed President Shinra and Aerith alike.

The Masamune is Sephiroth's signature weapon and an extension of his terrifying power. Its impractical length — roughly seven feet of blade — would be unusable by anyone lacking Sephiroth's superhuman SOLDIER abilities. The sword appears at critical moments of horror throughout FFVII: impaling President Shinra at his desk, descending from above to kill Aerith at the Forgotten Capital altar, and clashing against Cloud's Buster Sword in their final confrontation. It has become one of gaming's most recognizable weapons, symbolizing elegant, unstoppable destruction.

Appearance

An extremely long, slender katana-style blade with a slight curve, far exceeding any practical sword length. The blade gleams with an almost supernatural sheen, and its edge is impossibly fine. The long wrapped handle accommodates a two-handed grip.
