Item from Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix
Alien biological material harvested from the extraterrestrial entity Jenova, injected into SOLDIER candidates to grant superhuman abilities. Also the mechanism of Sephiroth's mental control and the cause of the Geostigma plague.
Jenova Cells are the common thread connecting nearly every tragedy in FFVII. Hojo discovered that injecting Jenova's cells alongside mako exposure granted subjects superhuman strength, speed, and durability — the SOLDIER enhancement process. But the cells also allow Jenova (and through her, Sephiroth) to exert mental influence over recipients. This is how Sephiroth controls Cloud, forces him to hand over the Black Materia, and creates the Reunion — a compulsion drawing all Jenova cell recipients toward the Northern Crater. After Meteorfall, Jenova cells contaminating the Lifestream caused Geostigma, a fatal plague affecting survivors.
In raw form, alien tissue pulsing with sickly blue-violet bioluminescence. When processed for injection, a luminous serum combined with mako. In infected individuals, manifests as the signature mako-blue glow in SOLDIER eyes or, in Geostigma victims, as black weeping lesions on the skin.
