Vincent Valentine

Character from Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix

A former Turk who was experimented on by Hojo and sealed himself in a coffin beneath Shinra Manor for thirty years, carrying guilt over his failure to protect Lucrecia and her unborn son.

Vincent Valentine chose a coffin over the world, and the world had to come find him. A former elite Turk assigned to guard the Jenova Project at Shinra Manor in Nibelheim, Vincent fell in love with the scientist Lucrecia Crescent — who chose Hojo instead and allowed her unborn child to be infused with Jenova cells. When Vincent confronted Hojo, the professor shot him and used his body as a test subject, implanting experimental Chaos cells that gave Vincent the ability to transform into monstrous forms. Vincent survived but was consumed by guilt, convinced that his failure to stop the Jenova Project made him complicit in everything that followed — Sephiroth's madness, Nibelheim's destruction, the threat to the Planet itself. He sealed himself in a coffin in the Shinra Manor basement, choosing atonement through isolation. When Cloud's party discovers him, Vincent initially refuses to join. Only the mention of Sephiroth stirs him — this is unfinished business. Vincent is quiet, brooding, and theatrically gloomy, but his guilt is genuine and his combat skills are devastating. His arc involves learning that sleeping through the world's suffering isn't penance; it's another form of cowardice.

Appearance

Tall and gaunt with long black hair, crimson eyes, and deathly pale skin that speaks to decades without sunlight. His most striking feature is the tattered red cloak that wraps around his lower face and billows behind him like a wound. A golden, clawed gauntlet covers his left arm — a remnant of Hojo's modifications. He wears dark leather beneath the cloak and carries a heavy triple-barreled revolver called Cerberus. His movements are unnaturally fluid, and his presence carries a palpable chill.
