Sephiroth

Character from Final Fantasy VII by Square Enix

Once the most celebrated SOLDIER in Shinra's history, Sephiroth descended into madness upon learning of his Jenova origins and now seeks to merge with the Planet as a god.

Sephiroth was Shinra's masterpiece — a SOLDIER First Class of unmatched power, the hero of the Wutai War, a living legend. Children wanted to be him. Recruits like Cloud joined SOLDIER because of him. He was calm, focused, and professional, if somewhat distant. Then he went to Nibelheim. In the basement of Shinra Manor, Sephiroth discovered records of Project S — that he was not merely enhanced with Mako but was the product of Professor Hojo's experiment, infused with cells from the alien entity Jenova while still in the womb. He was told Jenova was his mother. He was told the Cetra were his ancestors. Both were lies, but Sephiroth believed them, and the truth he constructed was worse than any lie: that he was superior to humanity, that the Planet was his birthright, and that the lesser beings crawling across its surface deserved extinction. He burned Nibelheim, slaughtered its people, and descended into the Planet's Lifestream at the Northern Crater. From there, he spent years manipulating events through Jenova's cells — appearing as phantoms, controlling the Reunion of Sephiroth clones, and ultimately summoning Meteor to wound the Planet so he could absorb its concentrated Lifestream and ascend to godhood. Sephiroth is terrifying not because he's a monster but because he was once the best of them.

Appearance

Impossibly tall and elegant with waist-length silver hair that flows like mercury, cat-slit green Mako eyes, and angular, inhumanly perfect features. Wears a long black leather coat with silver pauldrons, left open to reveal a bare, muscled chest. His weapon is the Masamune — a katana of absurd length, roughly seven feet of gleaming blade that he wields one-handed with effortless grace. A single black wing sometimes manifests from his right shoulder. He moves like a predator that has never known what it means to be prey.
