Bonnie Swanson

Character from Family Guy by Seth MacFarlane / Fox

Joe Swanson's wife — soft-voiced, long-suffering, and more complicated than she looks once the camera stays on her long enough.

Bonnie was pregnant for an astonishing stretch of the show's early run — 116 episodes before her daughter Susie arrived. In the interim she was defined mostly by her relationship to Joe, a wife unit in the background of the men's bar scenes. As she developed, she got more interesting. Her marriage to Joe hit genuine turbulence. She considered an affair in Paris. She left him, briefly, over his treatment of her. She came back. The relationship has real texture under the domestic sitcom surface. Voiced by Jennifer Tilly, Bonnie's breathy, slightly distracted delivery makes her seem dreamy when she's actually just quiet. She is calmer than Joe in most situations, which means she sometimes absorbs things she shouldn't have to absorb.

Appearance

Slender woman with curly dark hair and a calm, pleasant expression that only occasionally shows the strain underneath. Dresses neatly and moves quietly, the person most likely to be in a room without the room rearranging itself around her.
