The vast ocean where the UN Pacific Fleet escorts Eva Unit-02 to Japan — and where Gaghiel attacks because someone on that fleet is carrying the embryo of a god.

The Pacific Ocean becomes a battlefield when Gaghiel attacks the UN fleet transporting Eva Unit-02 from Germany to Japan. The fleet is serving double duty — it's also secretly carrying Adam's embryo, smuggled by Kaji. This is where Asuka and Shinji first meet and first fight together, piloting Unit-02 in an underwater battle against a creature the size of a battleship. The ocean setting strips away NERV's infrastructure — no launch catapults, no umbilical cables, no command center support. Just two children in a robot fighting a sea monster.

Appearance

Open ocean, calm surface masking the massive predator below. The UN Pacific Fleet stretches across the horizon — aircraft carriers, battleships, escort vessels. Unit-02 stands on the flight deck of the carrier Over the Rainbow, restrained and red against the grey naval backdrop.
