The ruins of the original Tokyo — nuked seven days after Second Impact, now a half-submerged monument to how quickly civilization eats itself when the world ends.
The original Tokyo was destroyed on September 20, 2000, seven days after Second Impact, when a nuclear bomb was dropped on it during the wars that erupted in the disaster's aftermath. Half a million people died. The Japanese government abandoned reconstruction, transferring capital functions to Tokyo-2 in Nagano Prefecture. The ruins of Old Tokyo were partially reclaimed as military testing sites — the Jet Alone robot was demonstrated here. It serves as a constant visual reminder of what happens when human institutions fail, and Tokyo-3's existence is specifically motivated by not repeating its predecessor's fate.
Partially submerged urban ruins. Skyscrapers jutting from the water at angles. Overgrown with vegetation in exposed sections. Reclaimed areas used as military testing grounds. The city center is entirely underwater. No civilian habitation.
