Location from Neon Genesis Evangelion by Hideaki Anno / Gainax
A disaster zone of beer cans and instant food containers where three traumatized people and a genetically engineered penguin attempt something resembling a family.
Misato's apartment is the domestic counterpoint to NERV's sterility. It is where Shinji learns to cook (out of self-defense against Misato's lethal cuisine), where Asuka stakes out territorial boundaries with tape on the floor, where Pen Pen waddles between refrigerator and bath, and where the closest thing to normal life happens in the entire series. The meals shared here — Shinji cooking, Misato drinking, Asuka complaining, Pen Pen observing — are the show's quiet heart. When this household falls apart, it signals that everything else will follow.
Standard Tokyo-3 apartment, spacious by Japanese standards but rendered claustrophobic by chaos. Beer cans (Yebisu brand) cover every surface. Instant food containers pile up in the kitchen. A dedicated second refrigerator hums for Pen Pen. Futons and sleeping arrangements are awkward after Asuka moves in. The balcony offers views of the city — peaceful when the buildings aren't retracting into the earth.
