NERV's secondary Eva testing facility — where Unit-03's activation test went wrong and Bardiel's infection turned a routine procedure into a nightmare that ended with a boy in a crushed cockpit.

The Matsushiro facility is NERV's secondary testing site, used for Eva activation tests when the main base isn't suitable. It becomes infamous as the site where Eva Unit-03, with Toji Suzuhara inside as the Fourth Child, was activated and immediately taken over by the Angel Bardiel, which had been hiding in a thundercloud. The facility was partially destroyed in the resulting explosion. The infected Unit-03 then marched toward Tokyo-3, forcing the confrontation that would break Shinji's will to pilot.
