The void above the atmosphere where the Fifteenth Angel hovers unreachable, beaming psychological warfare down on a girl who can't fight back.

Low Earth orbit becomes a tactical nightmare when Arael stations itself beyond the reach of all NERV weapons. From this sanctuary it projects its psychic attack downward, devastating Asuka with no possibility of conventional retaliation. The only weapon capable of reaching it is the Spear of Longinus, which Rei launches from Earth's surface to impale the Angel in orbit. The Spear then continues into space, lost — a critical setback for both Gendo's and SEELE's plans. The battle demonstrates that the Angels are not limited to ground assault.

Appearance

The black of near-space, stars visible. Arael glows like a luminous bird far above Earth's atmosphere. Its psychic beam descends as a shaft of white light toward the surface. Too high for any conventional weapon to reach. Silent and serene while its victim screams below.
