Item from Neon Genesis Evangelion by Hideaki Anno / Gainax
A cylindrical coffin that doubles as a cockpit — inserted into an Eva's spine, flooded with blood-scented LCL, and serving as the umbilical cord between a child's mind and a giant's body.
Entry Plugs are the interface between pilot and Evangelion. The pilot is sealed inside, the plug is inserted into the Eva's spine and locked in, then LCL floods the interior. Through liquid breathing, the pilot's nervous system directly interfaces with the Eva's, creating the synchronization link. The deeper the sync, the more the pilot feels what the Eva feels — including pain. Plug suits reduce interference but aren't strictly necessary. The LCL smells like blood because it is blood — Lilith's blood, pumped from the lake in Terminal Dogma. During the Bardiel incident, the Dummy System-controlled Unit-01 specifically targeted and crushed the entry plug, suggesting the Angel's core was partially located there. Entry plugs can be ejected in emergencies, though Angels sometimes prevent this.
White cylindrical tube, roughly human-body length. Contains a pilot seat with control sticks (induction levers), monitors, and neural interface systems. Inserted into the Eva's back via a loading mechanism. When activated, floods completely with amber LCL. Standard color is white, though each type varies. Extremely damage-resistant — can survive an Eva's destruction.
