Item from Neon Genesis Evangelion by Hideaki Anno / Gainax
A system that pilots an Evangelion using a dead girl's thought patterns — removing the need for a living child's consent and reducing the Eva to a barely controlled berserker.
The Dummy System is NERV's contingency for when a pilot can't or won't fight. Modified Entry Plugs emulate a pilot's thought patterns to operate the Eva without a human inside. The primary system is based on Rei Ayanami's patterns; the Mass Production Evangelions use a version based on Kaworu Nagisa's. When activated, it locks out the actual pilot's controls and causes the Eva to fight with aggressive, almost animalistic behavior. Gendo activated it during the Unit-03 incident when Shinji refused to fight his friend Toji — the Dummy System made Unit-01 systematically destroy Unit-03 and crush the entry plug. Ritsuko developed and maintains the system using data from the Rei clones in the Dummy Plug Plant. The Dummy System is the technological answer to a moral question: what do you do when the child soldier says no?
Externally identical to a standard Entry Plug — the modification is internal. When activated, the pilot's controls are locked out. The Eva's eyes may glow differently. The unit moves with bestial aggression similar to but distinct from true Berserk Mode.
