Character from Neon Genesis Evangelion by Hideaki Anno / Gainax
NERV bridge technician and closet nihilist — shreds air guitar at his station, dismisses Maya's techno-optimism, and when the end comes, he has no one to think of.
Aoba is the cynic of the bridge trio. Where Maya believes in science and Hyuga believes in Misato, Aoba believes in his guitar. He's an excellent technician who performs his duties with professional detachment, scoffs at Maya's faith in technology, and has no second thoughts about returning fire during the JSSDF invasion. He's a nihilist in the philosophical sense — not depressed, just unconvinced that anything means what people say it does. During Instrumentality, when each person is confronted with their deepest desire, Aoba is overwhelmed by Rei clones and screams — alone in a way the others aren't, because he has no one specific he's reaching for.
Long dark hair, sharp features, lean build. NERV bridge officer uniform. Air-guitars at his station when not on duty. Carries a guitar case when off-duty. Has a slightly detached, sardonic look about him.
Also known as: Aoba, Lieutenant Aoba
