The Third Angel and first to attack after Second Impact — a tall, gaunt humanoid with a bone-white face and cross-shaped energy blasts that walks out of the ocean and announces the war has begun.

Sachiel is the herald. It emerges from the ocean east of Tokyo-3 and walks through everything the JSSDF throws at it — tanks, artillery, an N2 mine that does nothing but give it a second face. Its energy blasts explode in crucifix shapes. It can alter its body mass and muscle density under strain, and as a last resort will wrap itself around an opponent and self-destruct. It is defeated only because Eva Unit-01 goes berserk with an untrained pilot inside — Shinji's first day sets the pattern for everything that follows. Sachiel is the simplest Angel in many ways: it advances, it fights, it dies. But its arrival shatters the illusion that Second Impact was the end of humanity's trials.

Appearance

Tall and thin humanoid, slightly larger than an Evangelion. Disproportionately long arms reaching below the knees. Bird-like bone head with deep-set red eyes. Core visible in solar plexus. Dark green-brown body. After regeneration from N2 mine, grows a second shorter-beaked face. Bluish-purple blood — unique among Angels.
