Character from Neon Genesis Evangelion by Hideaki Anno / Gainax
Creator of the MAGI supercomputers and Ritsuko's mother — a brilliant scientist who strangled a child, killed herself, and left her mind running NERV's systems as three warring aspects of one woman.
Naoko was the chief scientist of Gehirn and designed the MAGI supercomputer system, imprinting each of the three units with a different aspect of her personality: Melchior (the scientist), Balthasar (the mother), and Casper (the woman). She was sexually involved with Gendo after Yui's disappearance, knowing he didn't love her. When the first Rei Ayanami — a small child who looked exactly like Yui — told her Gendo called her an 'old hag,' Naoko strangled the child and then threw herself from Central Dogma onto the MAGI below. Her legacy is inescapable: her computers run every system in NERV, her daughter repeats her mistakes, and when Ritsuko tries to self-destruct the MAGI, Casper — the 'woman' aspect — rejects the command, choosing Gendo over Ritsuko one final time.
Brown hair, middle-aged, resembles an older version of Ritsuko before the dye job. Lab coat. Seen only in flashbacks. Intense focus, bags under her eyes from overwork. The resemblance between mother and daughter is uncomfortable for both.
