The Second Angel and progenitor of all human life — a crucified giant hidden in Terminal Dogma whose blood fills a lake of LCL, and whose merger with Adam is the key to either saving or annihilating the human race.

Lilith is the second Seed of Life, delivered to Earth in the Black Moon that became the GeoFront beneath Tokyo-3. Where Adam is the progenitor of the Angels, Lilith is the progenitor of the Lilin — humanity. She is the most closely guarded secret in NERV, hidden in Terminal Dogma with only the highest clearance granting access. Her blood is LCL — the amber liquid that fills entry plugs and allows pilots to synchronize with their Evas. The Spear of Longinus was used to keep her dormant, but after Rei uses it to destroy Arael, nothing restrains her. Gendo's plan requires merging Adam (in his palm) with Lilith (through Rei, who carries her soul) to trigger a controlled Third Impact. SEELE has different plans for the same merger. Lilith is the hinge on which all of humanity pivots.

Appearance

Enormous white humanoid figure, crucified on a massive red cross in Terminal Dogma. Lower body is incomplete — legs are absent, body trails off into a pool of LCL (her blood). Face is covered by a mask with seven eyes arranged in the pattern of the SEELE logo. Impaled by the Spear of Longinus to keep her dormant. The Spear was later removed.
