The Twelfth Angel — a reality-bending entity whose real body is a shadow and whose 'shadow' is a sphere, trapping Shinji in a pocket dimension for a psychological confrontation with himself.
Leliel defies conventional physics. What appears to be the Angel — the black and white sphere — is actually its shadow projected into our reality. The real body is the 'shadow' on the ground, an impossibly thin membrane hiding a Dirac Sea pocket dimension. When Unit-01 attacks the sphere, the shadow absorbs it, trapping Shinji inside a space where the Angel attempts to communicate with his mind. Inside, Shinji experiences a brutal psychological self-examination. Unit-01 eventually tears its way out from within, covered in blood — the Eva breaking free through its own berserking power. Leliel is one of the strangest Angels and one of the most thematically important: it forces Shinji to confront himself without any enemy to fight.
Appears as a floating sphere with a warped black and white striped pattern hovering over Tokyo-3. Its actual body is the shadow on the ground — 680 meters wide but only 3 nanometers thick. The sphere is merely the shadow it casts in our dimension. Possesses an inverted AT Field.
