Character from Neon Genesis Evangelion by Hideaki Anno / Gainax
Military otaku and Shinji's friend — the kid who desperately wants to pilot an Eva, cheerfully oblivious to the psychological devastation it causes everyone who actually does.
Kensuke is the most psychologically healthy person in the main cast, which in the context of Evangelion means he's merely eccentric rather than damaged. He's a military hardware enthusiast who records everything on his camcorder, camps in the mountains surrounding Tokyo-3, and dreams of piloting an Eva with the innocent enthusiasm of someone who has never been inside one. His father works at NERV and his mother is deceased, but unlike every other character in the show, Kensuke processes his grief through hobbies rather than self-destruction. He's a genuinely good friend to Shinji — supportive, enthusiastic, and incapable of reading a room. His obliviousness to the pilots' suffering isn't cruelty; it's the civilian perspective in a world that has normalized child soldiers.
Glasses, short light brown hair, average build. Always carrying a camcorder. Wears the standard school uniform neatly. Camps alone in the hills around Tokyo-3 playing solo war games. Energetic and fidgety, constantly adjusting his glasses.
