Class representative of 2-A and Asuka's only friend — a responsible girl with pigtails who keeps order in a classroom full of future soldiers and is hopelessly in love with a boy in a tracksuit.
Hikari takes her role as class representative seriously enough to be annoying about it, which is exactly the kind of normalcy the Eva pilots need. She is Asuka's only real friend, loyal enough to tolerate Asuka's worst behavior while being one of the few people who sees the loneliness underneath. She has an obvious crush on Toji that she can't quite confess, and she expresses it through cooking for him — an accomplished chef who handles domestic responsibilities for her two sisters since their mother died. She represents the civilian world that the pilots are protecting: ordinary, decent, and completely unequipped to understand what NERV puts children through.
Brown hair in two pigtails, freckles, light purple eyes. White shirt, blue dress, red bow — the full school uniform worn correctly. Knee-high white socks and black Mary Janes. Shorter than most classmates. Carries herself with bossy authority that doesn't quite mask genuine warmth.
