The Sixteenth Angel — a luminous double helix that tries to merge with Eva Unit-00 and forces Rei to make the first choice that is entirely her own: self-destruction to protect the people she's learning to love.
Armisael is one of the most dangerous Angels not for its raw power but for its method of attack: it attempts to physically fuse with Evangelion Unit-00, contaminating it at the molecular level. As it merges, it begins speaking to Rei through the neural connection, asking about pain and loneliness. Rei realizes the Angel cannot be stopped conventionally and triggers Unit-00's self-destruct, sacrificing herself and the Eva to destroy Armisael. This is the death of the second Rei — the one who had been slowly learning to be human. A new Rei wakes in Terminal Dogma with fragmented memories. The evacuation of Tokyo-3 that follows Armisael's attack marks the point where the city itself is acknowledged as lost.
Initially appears as a massive glowing torus ring floating above Tokyo-3. Transforms into a double helix structure when attacking. Luminous white and semi-transparent. Tries to physically merge with whatever it contacts.
