Humanity's interstellar civilization — former Formic colonies connected by ansible, governed by Starways Congress, and populated by people who forgot how close they came to extinction.
After the Third Formic War, humanity colonized the empty Formic worlds using relativistic ships and ansible communication. These became the Hundred Worlds — governed by Starways Congress, connected instantly by ansible but separated physically by years of travel. The Hundred Worlds' central tension: instantaneous communication means everyone knows everything in real time, but physical travel takes years or decades. Culture diverges. Languages drift. But news is simultaneous. This creates a civilization that is simultaneously unified and fragmented.
A network of colonized worlds linked by ansible communication and connected by relativistic starships. No FTL travel (until Jane's Outside detouring). Each world develops its own culture while remaining connected through instantaneous communication.
