Item from enders-game by Orson Scott Card
An instantaneous communicator using paired philotes — the technology that let Ender command real fleets from a 'simulator,' that connected the Hundred Worlds, and that gave Jane a body made of light-speed conversations.
The Ansible is the Enderverse's most important technology — invented after the First Formic War and derived from Formic communication principles. It allows instantaneous communication across any distance by exploiting paired philotes — the fundamental particles that underlie all matter. Without the Ansible, there is no Third Invasion command structure (Ender couldn't command real fleets via 'simulator'). Without the Ansible network, there are no Hundred Worlds (real-time governance across light-years). Without Ansible connections, there is no Jane (she lives in the network itself, existing in every connection simultaneously). Jane's existence within the Ansible network gave her access to all information on all worlds. When Starways Congress threatened to shut down the network, it was a death sentence for a sentient being.
Originally the size of a moving van, later miniaturized to suitcase-sized. Uses muon pairs where the receiving molecule mirrors the sending molecule's changes, creating electrical differentials that encode information. Paired ansibles must be manufactured together then physically transported apart.
