Valentine Wiggin

Character from enders-game by Orson Scott Card

Ender's older sister — too compassionate for Battle School, brilliant enough to shape global politics as the pseudonymous Demosthenes, and the one person who could always reach Ender when no one else could.

Valentine was rejected from Battle School because she had too much compassion — the IF's term for 'she wouldn't destroy an alien species without feeling bad about it.' Instead, she became the political writer Demosthenes — a fiery, nationalist voice on the Nets that she created with Peter as a tool for influencing global politics. The irony is that Valentine, who is genuinely compassionate, wrote as a demagogue, while Peter, who is genuinely ruthless, wrote as the measured centrist Locke. She is the only person who can penetrate Ender's isolation. When the IF needed Ender to return to training, they sent Valentine — the one emotional weapon in their arsenal that Ender couldn't resist. She hated being used. She went anyway. She chose Ender over Earth, following him off-planet when he couldn't return home. She spent 3,000 years traveling with Ender, married Jakt on Trondheim, had children, and revived the Demosthenes identity to prevent the destruction of Lusitania. She gave Ender his nickname — she couldn't pronounce 'Andrew' as a toddler.

Appearance

Small (5'1"), blonde hair, blue eyes. Her warmth is visible in her face — open, expressive, the opposite of Peter's calculated mask. She aged slowly through relativistic travel, spending centuries with Ender jumping between colony worlds.
