Character from enders-game by Orson Scott Card
The hero of the Second Formic War who discovered the key to defeating them — kill the Hive Queen, and the workers stop — then waited decades in a relativistic ship to train the child who would finish the job.
Mazer Rackham is the greatest military hero in human history — the man who won the Second Formic War by recognizing that the Formic fleet was a hive mind and targeting the Hive Queen's ship directly. With the Queen dead, every worker froze. The war ended in one shot. The IF imprisoned him in a near-lightspeed ship for decades — aging him only five years while thirty passed — so he could train the next commander for the Third Invasion. That commander was Ender. Mazer served as his instructor at Command School, running the 'simulations' that were actually real-time combat via Ansible. He is the one who told Ender the truth after the final battle: the simulations were real, the Formics are extinct, and Ender is a xenocide. He delivered the worst news any child has ever received with military directness because there was no gentle way to say it.
Short (5'8"), tan skin, dark brown eyes. Maori mother, English father. Bald in some depictions. By the time he trains Ender, he's aged only five years while thirty have passed — the relativity of his imprisonment preserved him for one purpose.
