Human was one of the Pequeninos who worked most closely with the human xenologers on Lusitania. His exceptional intelligence and curiosity made him a bridge between species. When Ender arrived on Lusitania, Human asked to be 'planted' — the ritual cutting that transforms a Brother into a Fathertree (Third Life). Ender performed the ceremony, making Human the first Pequenino brought into Third Life by a human. His Fathertree stands at the gate surrounding Milagre, and he communicates with both the Hive Queen and Miro through philotic pathways. He is the living proof that different species can understand each other — which is the entire thesis of Speaker for the Dead.
