Character from enders-game by Orson Scott Card
The smallest kid in Battle School and the smartest human who ever lived — a street orphan from Rotterdam whose illegal genetic engineering gave him genius, gigantism, and a death sentence.
Julian Delphiki II — Bean — survived the streets of Rotterdam as a toddler, was discovered by Sister Carlotta, and entered Battle School with the highest intellectual scores in history and the lowest physical aptitude. He is, by measurable metrics, the most intelligent human being ever born, because Volescu activated Anton's Key in his DNA — an illegal genetic modification that trades a normal lifespan for unlimited cognitive growth. Bean secretly constructed Dragon Army's roster for Ender. He commanded the innovative sixth toon — a special operations unit that operated outside standard army doctrine. He was Ender's hidden ace. During the 'simulations' at Command School, Bean was Ender's most reliable sub-commander. After the war, Bean became the Strategos, hunted Achilles de Flandres across the globe, married Petra, had nine children (some carrying Anton's Key), and eventually departed Earth on the Herodotus with three of his children — hoping to find a cure for his gigantism before his body gave out. He died at age 22, 429 years after departure, aboard a Formic vessel. He found the cure too late for himself. The streets of Rotterdam made him suspicious. Battle School made him lethal. Ender made him loyal. Petra made him human.
At age 4: barely 2'5", tiny even for Battle School. Brown eyes, black hair, dark skin. By age 22: 14'9" — his body grew faster than any frame could support. The progressive gigantism from Anton's Key was both his gift and his killer.
