The rotting roots of the Erdtree reaching deep underground, where Godwyn the Golden's death-blighted body has fused with the tree itself. Death blight corruption spreads from his corpse like a disease. The roots of the Erdtree extend impossibly deep, and here, in the lightless depths, they have found something terrible to feed on. Godwyn — the first demigod to die, murdered on the Night of the Black Knives — did not die completely. His soul perished but his body lived on, and it has been growing, merging with the Erdtree's roots in a grotesque symbiosis. His face, enormous and fishlike, stares with dead eyes from a wall of tangled root and corrupted flesh. Death blight — a grey, crystalline corruption — spreads from his body, turning everything it touches into ashen statues. Fia, the Deathbed Companion, comes here to lie with Godwyn's corpse, hoping to birth the Prince of Death from the union of her warmth and his endless dying.
