The source of the Erdtree's power and the governing force of all natural law in the Lands Between. Shattered by Queen Marika into Great Runes distributed among the demigods, its reconstruction is the Tarnished's ultimate purpose. The Elden Ring is not a physical ring — it is the operating system of reality. It governs life, death, causality, and the relationship between the mortal world and the divine. The Greater Will sent it to the Lands Between via a golden star, and Marika was chosen as its vessel. When she shattered it — whether in grief over Godwyn's death or in calculated rebellion — the world broke with it. The demigods claimed its shards as Great Runes, each shard granting a fragment of divine authority. To become Elden Lord is to reassemble the Ring and impose a new order on reality itself. Every ending in the game is a different answer to the same question: what should the Elden Ring be?
