Melina

Character from Elden Ring by FromSoftware

A bodiless maiden who offers her guidance in exchange for passage to the Erdtree — her one sealed eye hides a purpose she will not speak, and the ashes on her skin tell a story she cannot remember.

Melina arrives at the beginning with an offer: she will serve as your maiden, granting the ability to turn runes into strength, and in exchange you will carry her to the foot of the Erdtree. The terms are simple. Her reasons are not. She remembers almost nothing of her past — fragments of a mother's words, a purpose she was 'born at the base of the Erdtree' to fulfill, and an instinctive connection to the Sites of Grace. The game implies she is Marika's daughter, possibly another aspect or incarnation, possibly the vessel through which Marika's will acts after her imprisonment. Her arc converges at the Forge of the Giants, where someone must burn the Erdtree's thorns. She volunteers herself as kindling — a sacrifice delivered with quiet certainty. If you accept, she burns. If you take the Frenzied Flame instead, she survives, opens her sealed eye, and swears to deliver Destined Death upon you. Either way, she is defined by fire — past and future.

Appearance

A slight young woman with short, tawny hair and a calm, unreadable expression. Her left eye is permanently sealed shut — when it opens in certain endings, it burns with the violet flame of Destined Death. She wears a dark traveling cloak over burnt, scarred skin. She manifests at Sites of Grace as a translucent golden figure, never quite fully present. There is something ashen about her, as though she has already burned once.
