Godwyn the Golden

Character from Elden Ring by FromSoftware

The first demigod to die — murdered in soul by the Black Knives on the Night that shattered everything, his body refused to follow, and from his undying corpse the deathroot spreads across the Lands Between.

Godwyn was Marika's golden son — brave, charismatic, the demigod who befriended the dragons and brokered peace between their kind and the Golden Order. Then Ranni orchestrated the Night of the Black Knives, and assassins bearing fragments of Destined Death murdered his soul while his body persisted. This half-death — soul killed, body living — was unprecedented and catastrophic. From his deathless corpse, the deathroot spreads, creating Those Who Live in Death and corrupting the Erdtree from within. Marika shattered the Elden Ring in response to his death. Everything that follows — the Shattering, the war, the game itself — traces back to Godwyn's murder.

Appearance

In death, Godwyn's body has become something monstrous — a massive, fish-like corpse with a frozen expression of agony, fused with the roots of the Erdtree in the Deeproot Depths. His face is recognizable but distorted, the features of a once-handsome prince stretched across something that should not exist. Deathroot grows from his body like fungal tendrils, spreading corruption through the underground.
