The Formless Mother

Character from Elden Ring by FromSoftware

An Outer God of blood and open wounds who reached through the bars of Mohg's prison to grant him power — the patron deity of hemorrhage, feeding on the warmth that spills from broken bodies.

The Formless Mother is the Outer God who answered Mohg's rage in the Shunning-Grounds. While the Greater Will rejected him as an Omen, she reached through his prison bars and offered power — specifically, power drawn from blood. Her theology is visceral: blood is sacred because it carries life's warmth, and spilling it is an act of worship. She is not evil in a conventional sense — she simply finds beauty in hemorrhage the way others find beauty in starlight. Her relationship with Mohg is genuinely reciprocal: she grants him the bloodflame that powers his dynasty, and he provides her with an endless supply of opened wounds.

Appearance

The Formless Mother has no fixed form — she manifests through blood itself. Her influence is visible in the bloodflame that Mohg commands, in the crimson skies above Mohgwyn Palace, and in the wounds of her worshippers that refuse to close. She is felt rather than seen: a presence in every hemorrhage, every opened vein, every warmth that leaves a dying body.
