Moonside is not a real place. It's a psychic illusion created by the Evil Mani Mani statue, hidden in a storage room behind Jackie's Cafe in Fourside. Ness and Jeff enter involuntarily while searching for Paula and find themselves in a bizarre mirror-Fourside where the rules of reality are optional. Citizens speak in opposites — 'yes' means 'no' and vice versa. Some NPCs break the fourth wall, referencing hit points and game mechanics. Warp Men teleport you around the city. The enemies include Abstract Art, Dali's Clock, and Enraged Fire Plugs. At the center is the Evil Mani Mani itself. Defeating it shatters the illusion, and Ness and Jeff wake up in the cafe's storage room, surrounded by the statue's broken pieces and a very confused mouse. Moonside is EarthBound's most surreal sequence, which in a game this weird is really saying something.
