A perpetually indebted jazz band with six members (despite the name) who repay Ness's charity by driving through ghost tunnels and body-checking invincible robots.
The Runaway Five are a jazz band who perform in Twoson's Chaos Theater and later Fourside's Topolla Theater, and in both cases they are trapped by massive debts to their managers. Ness bails them out both times — first with Everdred's ten thousand dollars, then with a diamond from the Gold Mine. In return, they drive the party to Threed through a ghost-infested tunnel using loud music to ward off spirits, and later save Ness and Jeff in the Monotoli Building by deactivating the invincible Clumsy Robot with its off-switch. They also pray for Ness during the final battle. Their tour bus appears later in Mother 3 as a museum exhibit.
The two lead singers wear colorful suits (recolored from their original all-black Blues Brothers homage to avoid legal issues). The four instrumentalists back them up. They perform with the energy of musicians who know their next paycheck depends on this show.
