Character from EarthBound by Shigesato Itoi / Nintendo
Twoson's popular, well-groomed inventor whose single contribution to Ness's quest is a machine that plays a song and immediately breaks — proof that charisma is not competence.
Orange Kid is the foil to Apple Kid. Everyone in Twoson thinks Orange Kid is the real genius — he's clean, he's charming, his grandmother brags about how popular he is with girls. If Ness funds his research, Orange Kid eventually produces the Suporma (Super Orange Machine), which plays a song called 'Ode to Orange Kid' and then breaks. That's it. That's the invention. He then spends the rest of the game trying to figure out how to unboil an egg, claiming he's found problems in Einstein's theories. He is a perfect satire of credentialism over substance.
Clean, presentable, well-dressed. The kind of kid adults point to and say 'now there's a young man going places.' He is going nowhere.
