Ness's eccentric Onett acquaintance whose name is literally 'liar-exaggerate' and who dug up the Evil Mani Mani statue in his basement — setting the entire secondary plot in motion.
Lier X. Agerate lives in Onett and his name is a pun on 'liar' and 'exaggerate.' He claims to have found something extraordinary beneath his house, and he's telling the truth — it's the Evil Mani Mani statue, the conduit for Giygas's corruption across Eagleland. Unfortunately, he sells it to Mr. Carpainter, kicking off the chain of corruption that runs through Happy Happy Village, Fourside, Moonside, and ultimately the entire plot. Lier himself faces no consequences for unleashing a malevolent artifact on the world. He just goes back to digging.
An older man with a conspiratorial air. Lives in a house with a suspicious basement. Has the energy of a neighbor who insists he's found something incredible and, for once, is actually right.
