Location from Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
An open-world jungle floor where alien tourists enter as hunters — the first level where outworlders can interact with and kill crawlers for sport and loot.
The Hunting Grounds is the dungeon's sixth floor and second Volcano Storyline level. Similar in layout to the Over City but claimed by centuries of jungle growth, it introduces the most feared mechanic in the crawl: alien hunters. Three hundred sixty hunters start sequestered in Zockau during a thirty-hour grace period, then are released to hunt crawlers for their gear. These tourists can die permanently — there are no protections. Hunters begin at level fifty this season, twenty levels higher than usual due to crawlers arriving ahead of schedule. Sponsorship bidding opens in earnest. The floor hosts the Butcher's Masquerade ball where top-fifty crawlers and all surviving hunters attend. Secondary class selection occurs upon entry. The Mongoliensis dinosaurs roam the wilderness as mobs. Only eighty-five thousand crawlers remain at this point, and the floor lasts seventeen days.
A four-hundred-kilometer expanse of dense jungle reclaiming centuries of abandoned ruins, bisected by a five-hundred-kilometer river. An artificial sky creates the illusion of open wilderness. Settlements dot the landscape — from the city of Zockau to scattered outposts. Foliage has overgrown the same urban architecture seen on the third floor, creating a wild and predatory landscape.
