Location from Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
The tutorial floor — a sprawling grid of torchlit tunnels and corridors beneath Earth's surface where thirteen million crawlers fight low-level mobs and learn to survive.
The First Floor is the dungeon's tutorial gauntlet, a massive underground labyrinth split into unconnected regional sections so crawlers from different continents cannot interact. The grid is divided into squares containing four neighborhoods each, every neighborhood hosting its own mob type and boss. Rats infest every corridor regardless. Safe rooms take the form of teleported Earth restaurants — Taco Bells, Waffle Houses, DMV waiting rooms — staffed by Bopca Protector NPCs. Tutorial Guild Halls are scattered liberally, where crawlers meet their assigned Game Guides and unlock their HUD. Restrooms appear every quarter mile, each a portal to a personal bathroom stall. For the first thirty hours, if a second crawler enters someone else's bathroom, they explode. Seventy-five thousand stairwells populate after the introductory broadcast. The floor collapses after five days, killing over seven hundred thousand crawlers who failed to descend. This floor cannot be viewed by the public — only Borant personnel and press see events firsthand.
A vast network of halls and tunnels organized in a giant square grid. Main arteries stretch thirty feet wide and thirty feet tall, dimly illuminated by torches. Branching alleyways vary from smooth-hewn stone to red brick passages covered in glowing green lichen. Some corridors are shrouded in absolute darkness. The air is humid and stuffy throughout.
