Location from Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
A labyrinthine network of thousands of interconnected subway tunnels and trains — crawlers must ride the rails, fight through cars, and find hidden stairwells to survive.
The Iron Tangle is the dungeon's fourth floor, consisting entirely of thousands of interconnected subway tunnels with dozens of colored train lines and several unique named trains running in loops. Each tunnel has a color designation or unique name with one or more trains running continuously. Stations appear every two to twenty minutes along the route, some containing safe rooms, mob boarding points, or transfer connections. Stairwells are hidden at specific station numbers. The Desperado Club appears at transfer stations ending in one. Mobs board trains at regular intervals, fueled by drugs dispensed at five-station intervals — a system the showrunners control using sloppy control sigils. Named trains like the Nightmare Express require fighting through thirty-eight cars to reach the front, while the Dismemberment Limited hosts a troll flesher engineer who is the key to a major quest. Crawlers cannot descend early on this floor — stairwells open only six hours before collapse. The floor lasts ten days and starts with roughly three hundred ninety thousand crawlers.
Endless subway tunnels stretch in every direction, connected by transfer stations and train yards. Colored-line trains run in loops through stations spaced from city blocks to fifty miles apart. Named trains include a jet-black steam locomotive and a white monorail. Stations range from cramped platforms to large transfer hubs with safe rooms. The Abyss — a giant pit — waits at the end of the line to swallow discarded trains.
