Item from Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
Elf-technology power sources fueled by actual souls — less stable than dwarven batteries, used to power monster generators, guard patrols, and dungeon infrastructure.
Soul Crystals are an elf technology power source created when certain beings die and their souls are filtered through Scolopendra's body. They function as wireless chargers running on soul power rather than electricity, topping off guard patrols, powering monster generators, and maintaining dungeon infrastructure. They are known to be significantly less efficient and less stable than Dwarven Batteries. Soul crystals can be charged by killing within their area of effect and can power ghoul generators that continuously spawn monsters. Destroying a crystal stops its generator but causes a massive explosion — large enough to be felt across an entire floor. A group of crawlers sacrificed themselves by blowing a Blister Ghoul generator's soul crystal at station seventy-two on the fourth floor, freeing the stairwell for other crawlers. Physical contact with living flesh shatters them instantly.
Crystalline gems that glow with captured soul energy. Touching a soul crystal with living flesh causes it to shatter and cease functioning. They come in various grades, with C-Grade being common in dungeon infrastructure.
