Item from Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
A system-generated reward that assigns a crawler their permanent class — the single most important item in the dungeon and the foundation of every build.
A class box is a glowing cube that appears when the system decides you've earned a class assignment. It can come from a Desperado Club, from achieving a significant feat, or from specific quest completions. When you open it, the system evaluates everything about you — your stats, your achievements, your combat history, your species, and (unofficially) your entertainment value — and assigns you a class. Classes range from straightforward combat roles to bizarre specializations that only make sense in the context of a game designed by aliens. Each class comes with a skill tree, base stat modifications, and access to abilities that scale as you level. Some classes synergize with party members. Some are designed for solo play. Some are clearly designed to be funny for the audience at the expense of the crawler's dignity. The class is permanent — you can multiclass later under specific circumstances, but your primary class defines your trajectory through the dungeon. Veterans say the most important thing you can do before opening a class box is ensure your achievements and stats point toward something survivable.
