Odette

Character from Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

A former dungeon crawler turned galactic talk show host — self-interested, brilliant, and more self-centered than the thing at the center of the galaxy, by Mordecai's reckoning.

Odette is smart, cunning, and operates on a single principle: 'My audience loves you. The longer you stay alive, the more money I make.' She hosts Dungeon Crawler After Hours with Odette, the galaxy's most-watched crawl commentary show, and she leverages her press access with the ruthlessness of someone who survived the dungeon and decided the real game was always media. She is not an ally. She is not an enemy. She is a businesswoman who will help you exactly as long as helping you generates ratings, and who will document your death with professional detachment if it generates better ones. She actively manipulates events behind the scenes — sponsoring goddesses, blackmailing corporations, maintaining voyeuristic surveillance of Mordecai while publicly supporting Carl and Donut's crawl. Mordecai's resentment toward her runs deep — she was his manager, he testified against her at trial, and their history is a wound neither will let heal. She's the kind of character who makes you wonder if survival requires becoming something you'd rather not be.

Appearance

On-air: a crab-taur hybrid with a black insectoid helmet, compound eyes, antennae, a humanoid torso, and a king crab lower body with six twitching legs — assembled from monster parts attached via magical belt. Off-camera: appears as a roughly sixty-year-old human woman supported by a hovering disc, wearing dark clothing and a heart necklace. Lost her legs to a Fiend Scythe and replaced them with crab parts.
