Imani

Character from Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

A quiet nursing assistant transformed into a skull-faced butterfly healer — religious, gossipy, and willing to scream and swing a sword when the people she loves are in danger.

Imani is quiet and religious in the way that means she's processed the dungeon's horrors through faith rather than denial. She's a healer at heart — certified nursing assistant before the world ended, Fire Spiritualist healer after — and she will do whatever is necessary to protect the people she cares about, including standing over Yolanda's unconscious body screaming and crying and swinging her sword at anything that moves. She's surprisingly gossipy, which Carl discovers when he tries to bring her important information and finds she already discussed it with three other people. Her healing buffs — Juiced, Shrouded, Trolled, Smart Juice — are the mechanical backbone of any party she joins, and she deploys them with the competent calm of someone who spent years on night shifts keeping elderly patients alive. Yolanda's death broke something in her and rebuilt it as purpose. She founded the Guild Safehome Yolanda in her friend's memory and carries that loss as fuel rather than weight.

Appearance

Five-two, ninety pounds, transformed on the third floor into an Obsidian Butterfly — a gaunt, skull-faced vision with a white skull painted on her face and four translucent monarch-colored butterfly wings spanning about twelve feet. The wings can pass through physical objects. Around twenty years old. The contrast between her ethereal appearance and her practical nursing-background demeanor is striking.
