The deep desert is silence made physical. No machinery. No voices. Only wind, sand, and the occasional deep vibration of a worm passing below. The heat is absolute — air temperature above 70 degrees Celsius in summer, sand surface temperature high enough to fry exposed flesh on contact. Without a stillsuit, death by dehydration comes in hours. But the Fremen live here, and they don't merely survive — they thrive. They read the sand the way sailors read the sea: worm sign, spice blow indicators, the subtle color changes that indicate pre-spice mass forming deep underground. They travel at night, ride the worms across vast distances, and know every rock outcropping and emergency cache between the sietches. The deep desert is where the spice cycle plays out in its entirety — sandtrout encapsulate water, sandworms emerge, the worms produce pre-spice mass, the mass explodes to the surface as a spice blow. This is the engine that drives the universe's economy, and it happens here in the emptiest place imaginable, witnessed only by Fremen and the moons.

Appearance

Sand in every direction, unbroken to the horizon. Dunes rise and fall in rhythmic patterns — longitudinal ridges running hundreds of kilometers, star dunes at intersections, barchans marching downwind like slow-motion waves. The color shifts with the light: bone white at noon, amber at dawn, deep orange at sunset, blue-silver under the moons. Rock outcroppings are rare — when they appear, they're usually spice-stained orange at the base. Worm sign is visible as a distant ridge of displaced sand moving at speed.
