Farad'n Corrino

Character from Dune by Frank Herbert

Shaddam's grandson raised in exile on Salusa Secundus — trained by Jessica herself in Bene Gesserit ways, he married Ghanima and chose scholarship over vengeance, becoming the scribe of the Atreides dynasty that destroyed his own.

Farad'n speaks carefully and listens more than he talks, a habit Jessica's training reinforced but did not create — he was thoughtful before the Bene Gesserit gave him techniques. He processes the world through writing, composing histories and analyses that reveal a mind more interested in understanding power than wielding it. His mother Wensicia plotted to restore Corrino dominance through assassination, and Farad'n's willingness to abandon her schemes in favor of Jessica's tutelage reveals his core character — he would rather be competent and honest than powerful and corrupt. This is either his greatest strength or his most exploitable weakness, depending on who is evaluating him. He married Ghanima knowing his children would carry Atreides names, not Corrino. He accepted this with a grace that surprised everyone, including himself. His relationship with Ghanima is built on mutual respect and shared intellectual curiosity rather than romance, which may be more durable than passion in the long run.

Appearance

Young and fit with Corrino features — sandy hair, grey eyes, a face that carries echoes of imperial authority without the arrogance that usually accompanies it. Lean and athletic from Salusa Secundus training. Carries himself with restrained dignity. Dresses simply by imperial standards, preferring function over display. His hands are a writer's hands — ink-stained and precise.

Also known as: Farad'n, Farad'n Corrino, Prince Farad'n
