Other World

Location from Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama

The afterlife realm — where the dead are judged, heroes train on tiny planets, and Snake Way stretches a million kilometers between the check-in station and King Kai's home.

The afterlife in Dragon Ball is surprisingly bureaucratic. You die, you keep your body if you were important enough, you get judged by a giant ogre at a desk, and you're sent to heaven or hell. Heroes can petition to train under the Kais. The Z Fighters have been through here so many times that King Yemma recognizes them on sight. Goku has treated death as a training opportunity more than once, which says everything about his priorities.

Appearance

A vast, surreal dimension with golden clouds stretching endlessly. Check-In Station is a massive bureaucratic building where King Yemma — a giant red ogre behind a desk — judges the dead. Beyond that: clouds, floating pathways, the start of Snake Way, and various Kai planets scattered through the space. Heaven (fluffy clouds, halos) and Hell (a surprisingly pleasant place with fountains) exist here.
