Jiren

Character from Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama

The mortal who surpassed his own God of Destruction — a silent, overwhelming force whose rejection of bonds and trust made him the final wall Goku had to break through to achieve Ultra Instinct.

Almost never speaks, and when he does, it's in flat, dismissive statements. Meditates mid-battle because most opponents aren't worth his attention. His strength is so overwhelming that he doesn't need technique — raw power is his technique. Behind the stone facade is a traumatized child whose family and mentor were killed by a villain his strength couldn't prevent, and whose survivors abandoned him. He concluded that only absolute, solitary strength matters — trust in others is weakness. Goku breaking through that philosophy during the Tournament of Power, achieving Ultra Instinct through bonds rather than isolation, is the thematic climax of Super. Jiren's final expression of respect for Goku is the closest he comes to changing.

Appearance

Extremely muscular, broad-shouldered, with grey skin and large black eyes with no visible pupils. Wide, flat features. Wears the red-and-black uniform of the Pride Troopers. Completely bald. His physical presence radiates density — he looks like he could tank a planet-destroying attack and be mildly annoyed.

Also known as: Jiren, Jiren the Gray
